Always Hungry has been hungry for connecting with the community, good food, and a way to support people who make good food since day one.
Our Vision
After a lifetime of being constantly hungry for more (in food and life), founder Katie Jayne finally found the perfect way to satiate her desire for epic ingrediants, strong community, and supporting small underrepresented brands, and decided she’d just make a place where the snacks are always special and the company is always better.
She found a place where she could stock the shelves with interesting snacks and fill the place with good people to eat them. These items are fancy but approachable—little everyday luxuries—and always approachably decadent.
The dream isn't just for us; it is for all. We want good, fresh food for everyone, we want to eat from our local farms, and we want to lift up small brands that make food with integrity. We wish for you what we want for ourselves: a place to grab a thoughtful, delicious sandwich, a pint of organic strawberries, some funky new small batch popcorn, and head to the beach, or a selection of freshly made deli salads to supplement your Sunday afternoon BBQ. We are excited to offer a fuller shopping experience and be able to expand offerings to include all the groceries you need for the good of the people.
As an artist, this store is now my most excellent work. Goods are my medium. This place is built with my heart, and I hope to serve you and the community with love for a very long time.
Always Hungry is the vision of a former farm girl, designer, event producer, curator, and food-obsessed woman.
I opened Always Hungry with one giant goal: To be a place where people can come & find things that other really amazing people made. These makers are LOCAL, artisans, under-represented, or just so damn special I had to share with you. That’s it. That’s my why. It’s not about my over 20 years in hospitality, being raised by one hella badass mother, or having a family in catering & farming. It’s about supporting the people I love on their journey. Maybe it’s a mom who just started making some of the best bread I have ever tasted, & by you buying that bread, she is filled with self-confidence & is a happier mother. She feels like more. It’s a couple who just picked up everything & moved here to make a better life, bringing with them a Traditional Muhammara recipe you must try. It’s a local farmer’s flower. I think you should have it in your home to make you smile. It’s about supporting the farmers because we must always support the farmers. That’s it. As an artist, this store is now my most excellent work. Goods are my medium. This place is built with my heart & I hope to serve you & the community with love every day.
For the past year, we were able to test the concept in collaboration with Oram Holdings in Oceanside, CA. This concept was more focused on travelers and fancy beach snacks. We have then grown to open a tiny grocery featuring fresh produce, breads, grab-and-go meals, and more in the Village of Carlsbad. While Oceanside was great, the test store in Carlsbad has been epic. Our sales (Jordan, I need your help here) have doubled, and our basket sizes are much larger. The community is returning again and again to support the store, and people are excited!
At the latest location, we have been able to partner with Little Victory wine bar on a fun daily snacky hour, support the community with interesting foodie pop-ups, and expand our discovery box program. All of this has led us to wanting to expand to a larger location. This will allow us to offer more items and expand into a full-service deli.
Disco Boxes!
-
B2C
What started as a passion project to get our favorite items into customer homes, has turned into a wonderful revenue stream. Most products are now donated to the boxes in exchage for PR, and each box run is growing in numbers. Each box hosts about 10 - 14 items and is a great value to the consumer. We also gift a few boxes to influencers, chefs and media, which in return has given the brand and the shop a lot of attention.

B2B
We have worked with a local hotel chain on their ambassador box program, a fire relief gift bag and corporate lunch baskets. We aim to add at least 3 - 5 more corporations to our pipeline and continue this revenue stream.
